MVSKOKE culture at Riverwalk

The Jenks Riverwalk offers a unique opportunity to explore MVSKOKE culture through artwork and signage throughout the property. Below, you will find information on notable landmarks at the Jenks Riverwalk and Muscogee (Creek) Nation resources. 

The Creation Story interpreted by Johnnie Diacon

One of the three commissioned MVSKOKE artists for artwork at the Riverwalk, Johnnie Diacon completed two murals at the main entrance inbetween buildings 300 and 400. Diacon focused on telling the creation story through his artwork, spread across two murals.

The Creation Story Part Two

The second mural depicts an ancient ceremony still practiced to this day and a remembrance of the MVSKOKE people who emabarked on the Trail of Tears from their homeland to, what is now, Oklahoma. One Tribal Town chose to set up their council ground under an oak tree that overlooked the Arkansas River. This site would eventually become Tulsa.
